Writing a blog becomes like writing an essay at some point: annoying. That's probably why I let it slip for 4 days now and will have to catch up on each within the next couple of minutes. And I will write one blog entry for each day individually cause it's the first couple of days you experience a hell lot of things...
So after I was running around all day Tuesday I got up early on Wednesday to do the same. I met Chloe at 9 AM at the car park to walk to campus together and attend that International orientation thing. Turns out, it was useless since it was aimed more towards those internationals who stay here for their whole degree. We sat it out for an hour and the free water (which we seem to get everywhere lately) made us be patient. However, they wanted to do us a favor and had turned up the air conditioning like crazy so that we were freezing the whole way through. After the meeting was done we had to 'defrost' in the sun for a while after going after our regular errands.
Since the meeting was early it didn't take away that much of my time and I went after signatures soon again. Luckily, the building I had to go to first was right next door and I even got both of my signatures quite soon. Happily, I strolled towards the other side of campus where I needed to get my other two signatures (which turned out to be the most important ones but more of that later). On my way to the school of marketing I noticed and realized that Wednesday was O-Day and the whole campus was already full of people in the early morning. O-Day stands for Orientation-Day where all the different clubs and societies have stands, trying to sign people up for their fun. There was a melon eating contest, a DJ playing super cool trance music and lots of stands giving away free stuff. I got a free bag, tons of flyers and again, free water, which I was schlepping around all day.
I first looked around some stands, seeing what I could get out of their stuff, but then got a coffee and headed towards the school of marketing. I wanted to be done with the whole signature thing as soon as possible. However, to get to the school of marketing I had to pass through the whole O-Day bazaar, almost not being able to move because of all those people. Still, I made it there in one piece and got my signatures quickly after explaining to the guy that Advertizing and PR are right for me as a media student and that I had enough pre-knowledge to take those units. The guy was cool and just signed the paper. Happy as a honeycakehorse (Germans will know what I mean with that... lol) I ran down the stairs and back to the International Office (still getting more free stuff and signing up fpr all sorts of things). At the International Office Mrs Lea who I had to see had just gone on lunch break and so I just sat down in the grass for a while and listened to the trance DJ. He was so awesome! I wish we had DJs like that in Lufbra, but I'm just dreaming.
So when I got all my things sorted with Mrs Lea who had finally enrolled me properly, I went to the Student Central for the fucking 100th time to get my paper signed for the Smartrider card (the thingy with which you can travel around Perth for peanuts). For some reason, this time I didn't even really have to wait in line but this lady just grabbed my paper and stamped it without even checking if I was enrolled properly. Why could no one have done that beforehand!? -.-
So after I had my Smartrider card I went back to the Bazaar where I bumped into Beata and Lukas, two Swiss people I had met on Monday before. We chatted for a while and waited for Fi, a Danish girl, who met up with us. Since there was this great party supposed to be going on in the Tavern, we headed there. It was fricking packed like there was no tomorrow. We could hardly find a seat and we finally had to sit down in the scolding sun which was about to burn our backs like crazy. Fi and Beata got food (it looked good and I think I will have to try some of that soon too) and we just sat there and listened to the live bands playing. Unfortunately we were sitting pretty close to the stage and so it was more screaming than talking.
I knew Benedikt (a German guy I know) was there, I went to go look for him and found him only after making a round through the whole Tav and after bumping into Anders (the coolest and funniest Norwegian) Sebastian (another German dude from Aachen), Toni (an Australian girl who is a teacher in South Korea, teaching about 1000 kids) and Jim (one of the RAs of the Kurralong village). I talked to them for a bit and soon we decided that it would be better to head back to the village, get some beer and just sit down outside somewhere to drink and talk, since everyone else had decided to come to the Tav. So we packed up our things and walked down to Don Watts halls, where Sebastian and Jim live and just sat outside Sebastian's flat from 17:00 til 22:00, drinking, laughing and talking.
First, we were only a couple of people but apparently the word spreads quickly and so the later the night, the more people showed up and at some point we were about 30 people. I had a good time talking about all kinds of things and having some white wine, which some of the guys had bought earlier. I got pretty tipsy and decided that it was time for some food. There was supposed to be a BBQ at Erica Underwood (another hall across the street) and so after some discussions we went there to grab some free food. Unfortunately, we were about an hour late and all the food was gone. All I got was a piece of dry toast. Still hungry, we then walked to Domino's (which is right next door) and got some Pizza and chicken nuggets. When we came back I gave away about half of my chicken, cause people decided that I had bought it for everyone and just helped themselves. Never doing THAT again...
Meanwhile, people were pretty drunk and some decided to go the Karaoke Bar across the street. After the whole party broke up and a very drunk guy was put in a shopping trolley and ridden back to his room, the few people who stayed helped Sebastian clean up the place. Then we walked to the pub and found it to be just as packed as the Tav. However, since Sebastian knew some people standing in line pretty far ahead of us, we just skipped 20 people and got in pretty quickly. As soon as I got in the door, I heard someone 'screaming' a Karaoke song (it's this thing about Karaoke that only the worst singers decide to embarrass themselves).
We got ourselves a drink and looked around for other people. We found Anders who told us (almost in tears) that about 70 Asians had attacked him earlier and tried to strangle him. We later found out that Anders was pretty wasted and the attack wasn't half as bad as it had sounded.... Still, good times. After about 1 hour I decided to go back home. The place was too full, drinks were overpriced and the music was crap. I left at 23:30 and was walked back home by Sebastian who insisted I needed an escort. He went back to the place but came back here pretty soon afterwards since the pub already closed at 24:00. I'm just in another Lufbra... Oo
I was pretty tired so I just went to bed...
